The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela unveiled a multi-purpose sports court at Dabreek Primary school in Modimolle on Thursday, 18 April 2019.

The sports court was designed in a way that learners can play a variety of sports such as basketball, netball or tennis.

The Deputy Minister said the construction of the court was made possible by the assistance from the Department of Sports and the National Lottery Commission.

The event also served as a sod-turning ceremony, for a block of new classes which would be built at the school.

The community of Modimolle was happy to note that the construction of classes will give young people the opportunity to acquire skills and training while earning a stipend.

The project will be facilitated by Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA).

Manamela said about 150 young people will benefit from the initiative.

“We are doing this because we want to better the lives of our people. These are some of the things we can only achieve when we work together,” he said.

CETA acting core business executive Kgomotjo Mpandeli said this project will equip young people of Modimolle with various construction skills including roofing, tiling and bricklaying.

Mpandeli also indicated that CETA will be joining hands with the Ministry of Small Business Development, to help young people of Modimolle to form cooperatives.

She announced that the overall amount budgeted for the projects was estimated at R5 million rand.

Both the SGB chairperson Cate Mphafudi and principal Emily Manne, extended gratitude towards Deputy Minister Buti Manamela and CETA for this huge project.
