Bela-Bela Mayor Jeremiah Ngobeni was on the road addressing residents about rates and services arrears, and also the situation of indigents.

He touched base with locals at Leseding Section on Wednesday 30 January at the Living Word Bible Church to engage.

Residents arrived in their numbers to raise service delivery issues with the First Citizen.

In his address, the mayor told the residents that those who owe the municipality can have the interest on the amount written off, provided they pay their debts in full.

The mayor further spoke about reinstalling street lights and speed humps especially on the recently-paved streets.

Ngobeni further touched on the burning issue of substance abuse, against the backdrop of the deaths of two youngsters in recent weeks.

“We have noticed that the number of young people using and dying of drugs, is increasing and needs to be addressed. These are our future leaders and professionals who will sustain our country’s economic and social growth if cared for and nurtured properly. Every sector and stakeholder needs to step in to play their role in this regard as drug abuse affects us all,” Ngobeni added.
