The police in Lephalale have arrested a 27-year-old suspect on Saturday 26 January, for the alleged smuggling of illicit face creams and tablets into the country.

According to the Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, the suspect had crossed the border from Botswana into South Africa, driving a truck.

The truck was directed towards the searching bay, and that was when then discovery was made.

Ngoepe said boxes of Epiderm skin-lightening creams, and Cyproheptadine tablets were found hidden inside the empty diesel tanks, loaded at the back of the truck.

The driver was immediately arrested, and the items were then seized.

The seized items were, according to the police spokesperson, 4500 15g tubes of Epiderm creams and 80000 Cyproheptadine medicines.

The total of these items was estimated at a street value of around R2,4-million.

The suspect was expected to appear before the Phalala Magistrate’s Court this week, while investigations are continuing.
