In terms of the South African School’s Act, it is illegal for political parties to rally support on the premises of an institution of learning.

At Bela-Bela High School, ANC members displayed flags and banners ahead of and during a lower level soccer league fixture.

The Waterberg SAB Regional League fixture was between hosts Bela-Bela Soccer Academy Football Club and Modimolle Troublemakers Football Club.

Other reports suggest the ANC had staged an inter-ward soccer tournament at the same venue earlier in the day.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has set aside Saturday 26 January and Sunday 27 January as the final registration days, ahead of the general elections scheduled for a few months’
time.

ANC flags and banners were visible on the perimeter fencing of the stadium.

Bela-Bela EFF co-ordinator, Sello Moswoeu, said the party had hit the ground running, distributing pamphlets at public spaces.

He said the target for the EFF had always been the younger generation.

Bela-Bela Residents Association (BRA) councillor, Joseph Makhubela, said the party was on a door-to-door campaign urging voters to either register or confirm their status. The DA’s Marlene van
Staden said the party was also busy urging potential voters to register and also check their status.
