Motorists and other road users in Bela-Bela were relieved when the railway crossing into the township was finally re-opened on Friday 14 December.

Politicians, residents and stakeholders converged on the area for the official re-opening, presided over by Bela-Bela Mayor Jeremiah Ngobeni.

Stakeholders at the event included the local police, traffic department, Warmbaths Taxi Association (WATA) and representatives from various political parties.

Road users were in agreement that the re-opening of the railway crossing went a long way to ease traffic logjams on the town’s roads network.

WATA chairperson, Malesela David Mogale, said a request would be filed with the authorities to formalise the Extension Seven crossing, which he said was beneficial to taxi operators.

Municipal spokesperson Kabelo Mosito promised to respond to the matter in due course. The holiday high season went smoothly, too.
