Five firefighters from the Working on Fire Limpopo’s Vingerkraal/Mabalingwe Base were awarded for bravery following a recent fire at Shakama Game Reserve.

Five firefighters from the Working on Fire Limpopo’s Vingerkraal/Mabalingwe Base were awarded for bravery following a recent fire at Shakama Game Reserve.

Molebogeng Matlala, Simon Molapo, Abraham Nakana, Jan Molekoa and Sello Ncosane were awarded certificates and prizemoney for bravery during a ceremony held at the Mabalingwe Game Reserve on Thursday 29 November.

One of the recipients, Nakana, applauded his colleagues and management for teamwork, dedication and unity portrayed throughout the years.

“Of all the individuals I wish to single out our base manager, Ashley Theron, for his support throughout,” he said.

Nakana described Theron as a father figure.

The firefighters were recognised for rescuing a woman and her children from a runaway inferno.

The woman and her children were about to leave a friend’s premises when the fire drove them back, according to WoF spokesperson, Matema Gwangwa.

Explaining what happened at the fire, Nakana said they rushed in to take out the fire as soon as they heard a family was trapped there.
