This year’s annual event will be hosted by Hapido Café on Saturday 8 December.

The day of fun and carnival activity was aimed at encouraging revellers’ travelling down memory lane, reliving the olden days in terms of music, dance and dress code.

The name Kofifi is an improvised version of the legendary 1960s Sophiatown township of Johannesburg, which used to house the likes of the late music legends, Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela, and also prolific authors and journalists, the late Es’kia Mphahlele and Can Themba.

On the occasion of the last edition of the Kofifi, socialites mesmerised each other with hairstyles of years gone by, such as Afro hairstyle and the simple but stunning pleat for women.

Bell-bottom trousers and the vintage beret were also on show.

The organisers have reason to believe revellers would be more daring during the forthcoming event.

Tebogo Monama of TRV said this year’s event will comprise of performances such as music from the roaring 1960s and also the swing and soul of the 1970s.

The Modimolle-based TRV musical ensemble was expected to perform, among others its popular “Gae Limpopo” (Limpopo our home) ballad, which was inspired by various idiomatic expressions
celebrating the abundance of artistic talent across the home province.

The six-piece ensemble, which was founded in the year 2014, comprises of lead singer John “Ngaka” Mabusha, bass guitarist Neo “Mocks the Bass” Mokhonoana, drummer Steve “Professor” Kgatla, percussionist Mpho “Sphoses” Molokomme, Tebogo “The Bishop” Monama on ivories, and lead guitarist, Joel “Fistos” Mokhonoana.
