Push against substance abuse continues

Limpopo MEC for Social Development, Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana, stopped by in Bela-Bela to support ongoing campaigns against substance abuse, especially by the youth.

The MEC took to the platform to address scores of locals at the end of an awareness march.

Activities kicked off with sports against crime, drugs and substance abuse event at Mampatile Primary School on Wednesday 3 October.

Pupils from all primary schools took part in various sporting activities.

The campaign was supported by the local social development department, the education office, and SAPS.

Sporting actitivities were followed by a mass march from Letlhabile Park to the Zone 14 Soccer Fields on Friday 5 October.

Member of the Mayoral Committee in the Waterberg District Council, Freddy Hlungwane, and councillors from the Bela-Bela Local Municipality, Frans Mothokwa and Lerato Modimola, graced the occasion.

An event at the Antioch River Church on Saturday 6 October rounded off the events under the banner of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Thuma Mina campaign.

Of concern was that Mokaba-Phukwana said that Bela-Bela had been identified as a hot spot for substance abuse.
