Bela-Bela city fathers angered by Koppewaai electrical connections

The Bela-Bela Local Muncipality has condemned incidents of illegal electricity connections, allegedly by residents in the Koppewaai informal settlement west of the town.

The response was a direct sequel to an incident from which a reporter and municipal officials were threatened with violence by a councillor and his lobbyists.

Municipal spokesperson, Kabelo Mosito, said during a carefully-worded interview that officialdom continued to “engage” with the councillor and concerned community.

He said the municipality had observed with grave concern the continued incidents of illegal power connections in Koppewaai.

Mosito warned that those found on the wrong side of the law faced hefty fines.
