Phagameng High School alumni Dr Salani Chauke reconnected with his former educators, when he came to deliver the keynote address on the occasion of the matric farewell at Coro Creek Golf Estate in Modimolle on Thursday, 27 September.

Chauke, who did his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Nairobi in Kenya, was invited to come and inspire the Class of 2018, and encourage them to stay focused so they can be
able to beat the odds as they start their journey of life.

Preparing the young adults for what waits ahead, Chauke shared his story and how difficult it was at times.

He said at one point he thought of deferring his course due to the difficulties he was facing.

His father gave him words of wisdom, reminding him that sometimes people will fall, but they eventually rise again.

“Education is the only friend who will never leave you, regardless of your financial situation or difficulties,” Chauke said.

He spent his primary schooldays at Dagbreek Primary School, then later moved to Modimolle Primary School.

Chauke eventually attended Phagameng High School, where he passed his Grade 12 in 2008.

While doing computer courses in Mokopane, Chauke was granted a bursary by the Department of Agriculture to go and study in Kenya.

The former Phagameng High School learner graduated last year in the East African country, and he is now back home on an internship programme.
