Thapelo Motaung goes on trial

Self-confessed Bela-Bela drug dealer Thapelo Motaung goes on trial before the local magistrate’s court on Thursday 1 November.

Self-confessed Bela-Bela drug dealer Thapelo Motaung goes on trial before the local magistrate’s court on Thursday 1 November.

The man appeared for the fourth time in the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Friday 31 August, accompanied by a lawyer.

He has been charged with dealing with drugs and is out on warning, pending his next court appearance in November.

In recent weeks Motaung dropped a bombshell at an anti-drugs public meeting, asking the community to forgive him for his alleged role in the distribution of drugs in the township.

Motaung, better known as “Bomba”, voluntarily took to the podium during an event hosted by the Ikageng Youth Centre at Forever Resorts on Tuesday 3 July.

Speaking at the event at the resort, Motaung made the startling confession that he was a drug dealer, but that he had changed his ways.

He further committed to throw his lot behind efforts to push back against the proliferation of drugs in the township.

Motaung had been imprisoned previously, on charges of dealing with drugs, but had been released on parole.

Further efforts by Motaung to go public on his confession were stymied due to the sub judice nature of his present trial.
