Traffic logjams of concern to taximen

The Warmbaths Taxi Association (WATA) has urged the Bela-Bela Local Municipality for proper consultation with regards to the closure of the main artery into the township.

The Warmbaths Taxi Association (WATA) has urged the Bela-Bela Local Municipality for proper consultation with regards to the closure of the main artery into the township.

The Miles Street railway crossing has been closed due to the planned building of a bridge.

The bad news, as far as WATA is concerned, was that the peak hour bumper-to-bumber traffic slowed down business for the taxi operators.

Speaking after a meeting between the two parties on Monday 27 August, WATA chairman, Malesela Mogale, said it was agreed that the construction of the bridge be fast-tracked.

Engagements were also ongoing with Transnet, regarding the opening of an alternative railway crossing into the township.

Municipal spokesperson Kabelo Mosito said it was envisaged that work on the Miles Street Bridge would take about five months.

He advised motorists to continue using the two entrances on the R516.
