Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Nandi Ndalani, presided over the official launch of Women’s Month celebrations in Modimolle on Wednesdasy 1 August.

She touched base on the occasion of the official launch of the Women’s Month events dedicated to the late ANC stalwart, Albertina Sisulu.

The theme for this year’s events is “100 Years of Albertina Sisulu: Women of Fortitude, Women Unite in Moving South Africa Forward.”

On the occasion of the launch, Ndalani detailed Women’s Month activities which were scheduled to be held across the province.

In a moving speech, Ndalani said women must be empowered to be able to stand up and reject oppression in all forms.

“It is the duty of government to ensure that we break the historic barriers which have denied women opportunities to provide for themselves and their families,” she said.

She said the government was aware that many women remained in abusive relationships to retain a roof over their heads, and have their offspring fed.

Ndalani said the Limpopo government had tailored “deliberate” programmes and initiatives to ascertain the safety and protection of women, and their role in economic activity.

Limpopo Premier, Stanley Mathabatha, was scheduled to address the main Women’s Month rally scheduled for Polokwane’s Tibane Stadium midweek.
