Award beckons for Mookgophong acoustic guitarist

Mookgophong artist and acoustic guitar player Kholofelo Baldwin Hlongwane, popularly known as Baldwin Kay in the music industry, has strung his way into a nomination for Best Jazz Hit in the 2nd Annual Limpopo Music Awards (LIMA).

The awards are hosted by Mahlasedi Media and Communications.

Hlongwane was nominated for his hit single, Ke Mmone (I found her), which is popular with locals in the province and beyond.

The Waterberg artist continues to enjoy airplay on national radio, and also among the local households during weddings and other ceremonies.

The song was composed by Hlongwane working with talented songwriter, Joshua Sekgaolelo, who also hails from Mookgophong.

“This nomination is a source of motivation not only for me, but also other emerging artists, which proves anything is possible if you stay focused,” he said.

He told The BEAT that he wanted to promote the Afro Jazz music genre among the youth.

The Mookgophong-born musician said this was his first nomination since he started his music career.

The big night for the awards will be held on Saturday 15 September at Meropa Casino in Polokwane.

To vote for Baldwin Kay, his followers can send the code “51” to the SMS line 47052.

Meanwhile, Mookgophong comedian Multi B (real name Hendrick Moreroa) has been nominated for the Independent National Gospel Music Awards (Ingoma). To vote for Multi B, people can send the phrase “Ingoma Best Gospel Comedian MultiB” to the SMS line 45633.
