The Limpopo economic cluster has unveiled a “practical” programme aimed at creating upwards of 9 000 job opportunities for unemployed youths.

The provincial authorities said in a recent statement the groundbreaking programme was in line with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s ambitious Youth Employment Service (YES), which aimed to respond to the national clarion call to absorb unemployed youths into both government and the private sector.

The provincial Economic Cluster subsequently developed a practical programme that is aimed at empowering over 9 000 young people.

“The provincial Economic Cluster subsequently developed a practical programme that is aimed at empowering over 9 000 young people in the 2018/2019 financial year,” the statement declared.

Limpopo Economic Cluster comprises of the departments and agencies of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Agriculture and Rural Development, Transport and Community Safety, Limpopo Tourism Agency, Limpopo Gambling Board, Great North, Limpopo Connexion, Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure and the Office of the Premier.

The statement offered a breakdown of the opportunities on offer, which included 3 510 in the artisans, manufacturing and construction industries, 2 603 in business services, 410 in the
agricultural sector, 641 in transport and logistics, 490 in tourism, 976 in the environmental sector, 500 in information and communications technology, 50 in engineering, 406 in engineering
and mechanical, and 70 in the general government workplace.

Premier Stan Mathabatha launched the Youth Development Programme at the Mookgophong Stadium last Thursday 26 July.

The official launch was held under the theme “Moving towards a meaningful Economic Transformation driven through Youth Empowerment”.

According to the statement, the objectives of the strategy are, among others, to reassert youth development as a cross-cutting responsibility of all sector departments and state agencies in
the government and municipalities.
