Centre offers programmes for unemployed youth

An empowerment centre, that prepares the unemployed youth for the labour environment through two different programmes, recently opened in Modimolle.

The centre started in April and is known as Work 4 A Living (W4AL) and part of Siya Sebenza, a non-profitable organisation (NGO), that seeks to address the lack of development and work ethics, particularly among the less privileged youth, by preparing them properly for the working place.

W4AL has about 45 centres worldwide.

The South African programme started in Port Elizabeth in 2007, and focuses on teaching the unemployed how to work at a level of excellence.

The programme consists of two phases. The first phase focuses mainly on personal development and is run over 12 or13 days. During this phase the attendee’s mindsets are challenged and they learn how to be independent. The second phase focuses on skills development, and covers a variety of courses.

The programme focuses on far more than just ensuring someone finds a job. It also promotes excellence by building relationships with potential employers and teaches students the reason for being invaluable to a company or employer.

The programme also assists with CV workshops, interview preparations, and finding employment through W4AL’s job centre, even starting a business through the organisation’s business school.

W4AL also assists students with basic mathematics, since big retailers often do assess-ment tests before hiring.

Those interested in the programme can call the centre at tel. 072 623 4855, or visit them at 52 Chris Hani Street, Modimolle.
