Health fears over sewerage spill

The Seleka family at Modimolle’s Freedom Park (otherwise known as Extension 7) is living in fear of a possible health hazard, due to blocked sewerage pipelines.

The Seleka family at Modimolle’s Freedom Park (otherwise known as Extension 7) is living in fear of a possible health hazard, due to blocked sewerage pipelines.

Resident Abram Seleka said the sewerage bubbled up back into his RDP dwelling, rendering the place a difficult space to live in.

He said municipal workers visited to inpect the sewerage, but told the family they coul;d not get immediate help because of lack of equipment.

Seleka said the spillage dated back to the Easter Weekend in early April.

“The municipality officials came to check the situation, and later told us they cannot help us due to lack of equipment. All we want is for this sewer system to be unclogged so it can function properly. My fear is that this situation poses a real life threat for the entire family, especially the children,” he said.

At the time of going to print, the authorities in the Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality had not yet responded to The BEAT’s attempts to source comment on the matter.
