Good news for Mookgophong

Residents of Mookgophong will soon have access to services such as renewing their driver’s licenses and registering vehicles, without having to travel upwards of 40 kilometers to Modimolle.

Residents of Mookgophong will soon have access to services such as renewing their driver’s licenses and registering vehicles, without having to travel upwards of 40 kilometers to Modimolle.

Residents in the area have since been advised to travel to the nearest Modimolle Licensing Centre, after part of the local premises was destroyed by a mysterious fire in April.

Councillor Hercules Louw of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality said the party, in partnership with the community had to take charge, to ensure that traffic
and licensing services were once again delivered to residents.

‘The DA-led administration has answered calls from Modimolle-Mookgophong residents by installing two security doors, burglar bars between two offices and wall plugs for the computers, “ he
explained.

Louw said the DA also installed other equipment which included among others, cabinets, a photocopying machine, surveillance cameras and an alarm system.

Following the renovation of the centre, the Modimolle-Mookgophong municipality has requested the Provincial Department of Transport to log a call at the Road Traffic Management Corporation
(RTMC) for the installation of the the National Traffic Information System(eNaTIS)

The eNaTIS system captures all vehicle, driving licence, and contravention and accident data.

Once the centre is up and running, members of the public will be able to renew their drivers’ licenses and also register their vehicles.

Applicants would, however, not be able to make new appointments for learner’s and driver’s licenses as these were among the services suspended by the provincial department of transport in
relation to an ongoing investigation.

Louw said the DA-led administration is currently attempting to have the office operational within the next week.

He said members of the public will be informed of any new developments.

“The DA is working hard to improve the Municipality’s financial situation so that service delivery can be advanced, but in the meantime, this project illustrates that through public and
private partnerships we can see progress in our communities,” he added.
