R1 000 bail for arson suspect
The Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 14 June granted bail of R1 000 to Koppewaai arson attack suspect, Hans Phale.
The Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 14 June granted bail of R1 000 to Koppewaai arson attack suspect, Hans Phale.
Phale appeared in court following the destruction by fire of a shack in Koppewaai on Sunday 3 June.
The court has postponed the case to Thursday 5 July, pending further investigations.
The shack belonged to Koppewaai resident Salome Mahladisha.
At the time officials from the Bela-Bela Local Council visited the scene of the fire, to offer support.
Risk management head, Thipe Dlamini, had at the time promised that the municipality would provide building material for the destitute Mahladisha.
He also promised that the Home Affairs Department was to be engaged to assist in issuing a new ID for the woman, after her original document was destroyed in the fire.
