Six hundred households get services

More than 600 households in Alma recently received services from the Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality.

The small town of Alma has located 52 km from Modimolle towards Vaalwater with 10 km of dirt road to the R33 route.

The contractor completed the installation of 601 household connections in Alma on Tuesday 14 March, as well as 42 houses in Vaalwater. According to Marlene van Staden, Mayor, 8,2 km of water pipes were installed, 11 km of sewer pipes were laid, 7,3 km of roads were re-graveled and graded and 20 fire hydrants were installed.

The municipality’s next step is to install water meters, secure the water source and connect these customers to the mains.

According to Van Staden, these developments should positively impact residents’ lives.

“Thank you to the provincial department of co-operative governance and human settlements (Coghsta) for adhering to the plea of the municipality to develop these areas as well as Phamela Engineering Services for the work they have completed successfully.”

She said the municipality would continue to request Coghsta to continue with the installation of services at Extension 5 in Vaalwater and in Extension 12 and 13 in Phagameng where residents need water and sewer.
