Mokhari Secondary School receives six new toilets

The educators and learners of Mokhari Secondary School in Mookgophong were elated when they received six new toilets built into a shipping container on Friday 22 July.

They now have the luxury of doors for privacy and two basins with running water — a basic privilege that is long overdue.

The container is linked to a complete sewer and water installation which was donated by Spar South Africa.

Marlene van Staden, mayor of the Modimolle-Mookgophong local municipality, attended the ceremony with colleague Solly Malatsi from the local government.

Kobus Briel, a local businessman was key in the donation of these facilities. He said that all citizens should be thankful and give back to their respective communities.

The mayor said at the inauguration ceremony:

“I do not have enough words to thank the people of @my spar South Africa, Kobus Briel, as well as @bigboxSA Big Box Containers, for their amazing donation and investment in the residents of Mookgophong,” Van Staden told The Post.

One of the educators, who wants to stay anonymous, said that the project was a fantastic example of what can happen when everyone works towards a common goal. Female learners also received sanitary products. Lunch was given to all who attended the ceremony. A touching gesture was the handwritten note that was given to all the learners to show the sponsor’s support and encouragement. I was also impressed with the school principal, members of the school governing body, and learners of Mokhari Secondary School, said the mayor.

“Let us improve the lives of community members, be the difference, give hope to the young women of South Africa and stop gender-based violence,” she said.

The same company also donated new school shoes to Mookgophong Primary School in town.
