Sleeping truck driver falls victim to robbers

A truck driver waiting for delivery got a rude awakening over the weekend after robbers woke him from his sleep.

According to Lt. Col. Staal Nienaber of the Modimolle Police, the truck driver slept in his truck while waiting for a delivery in the industrial area in Modimolle. At around 23:40 on Saturday 1 June, he awoke when four robbers threw a brick through his truck window.

One of the four robbers was armed and ordered him to unlock the doors. Three of the men got into the truck and searched it for valuables. The robbers took the victim’s bank card and forced him to reveal his PIN code. They withdrew cash from his account.

The robbers also took two cell phones, a gas stove, clothing, and cash from him, before fleeing on foot.

The truck driver was not injured.

The police have opened a case of armed robbery and a manhunt is underway. As it was dark during the attack, the driver had difficulty describing the attackers.
