Multiple arrests for possession of drugs
The Limpopo Police arrested several suspects in connection with the production and distribution of illicit cigarettes and drugs on Thursday, 15 February in the Waterberg District.
Police, alongside the private security sector in Mookgophong, received a tip-off about a vehicle with illegal cigarettes.
Two suspects aged 23 and 28 were apprehended at a filling station.
Col Malesela Ledwaba said that the confiscated items are currently undergoing further examination, and the estimated market value of the seized goods is believed to be in the range of R299,000.
A second incident occurred in Bela-Bela, where four male suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs. Three of the suspects were found in possession of 34 sachets of Nyaope drugs and another suspect was found in possession of 260 sachets of Nyaope. An undisclosed amount of money was also confiscated.
“These arrests send a clear message that the illegal cigarette and drug trade will not be tolerated, “ Lt Genl Hadebe remarked.
The suspects will appear before the respective Magistrate’s Courts in due time.
