A car thief learned the hard way after he was sentenced to six years of imprisonment by the Regional Court in Mokopane on Tuesday 30 January.
The 34-year-old Tshepo Gabriel Ranoto was arrested in July 2023 after the Police found him in possession of a white Nissan Navara Club Cab, which was stolen during a house robbery in Mokopane. He was arrested at Ga-Rakgoatha Village in the Zebediela District, according to Col Malesela Ledwaba, the provincial spokesperson.
Detective WO Mafiwa Nkwana of the Mokopane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit successfully investigated the case. The court declared Ranoto unfit to possess a firearm as well.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Maj Genl Jan Scheepers, welcomed the court outcome, pointing out that this will serve as a deterrent and a reminder that crime does not pay.
