Man arrested after girlfriend’s death

A 34-year-old male suspect was apprehended by members of the Mokopane Crime Intelligence and Mahwelereng Detectives on Monday 23 October for an alleged murder of his girlfriend in the Cradock policing precinct in the Eastern Cape province.

The suspect was nabbed during an operation that was executed in the Mahwelereng policing area in the Waterberg District.

The suspect allegedly brutally assaulted his girlfriend after a heated argument in Cradock and later fled the province to evade an arrest. She was admitted to a hospital but later succumbed to her severe injuries.

Police received information about the suspect who was located at Mapela in the Sundsloot Village.

They managed to locate the man who was found at his parental residence.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Cradock Magistrate court soon facing charges of murder.

The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe, said he appreciated the arrest.

“Limpopo is not a hideout for criminals and the police in our province will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that acts of criminality are dealt with decisively, without any fear or favour,” Hadebe said in a media statement.
