The police in Limpopo have expressed concern at the steady escalation of crime across the Modimolle-Mookgophong area.

Provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nneke Ledwaba, was particularly concerned about criminality across the Modimolle cluster.

The commisioner’s port of entry was a whistle-stop tour of Mookgophong, whereby the provincial leadership engaged communities on Friday 1 June.

Ledwaba identified certain disturbing and prevalent trends, such as protesting communities disrupting schooling.

Other areas of concern were incidents of domestic violence, drug abuse and other substances.

The entourage also visited some schools, to encourage learners to stay away from criminality.

The Department of Education, among other stakeholders, was also in attendance.

During the visit, the commissioner also conferred ranks to the newly-promoted police officers.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, was promoted to the rank of a full colonel.

Ngoepe joined the ranks of the SAPS in 1985.

Ledwaba urged the police officers to work even harder.
