When Hermans Moima (31) of Modimolle discovered his love for bodybuilding, he decided to quit his passion for dancing and focused on weightlifting and regular exercise to shape up his physique.

Today Moima has earned himself the nickname “Bison”, as a result of his muscular body which is likened to one of the largest mammals in the world.

The BEAT had a one-on-one interview with Moima on the morning of Tuesday 21 January, shortly after his training session.

He said he was always inspired by people who had strong muscles, and then did some research, which included asking them for tips and advice.

“As part of my research, I learnt that it is all about pumping iron (lifting weights) and sticking to a healthy diet. You also have to keep in mind that body-weight exercises have their limits.
Do not go beyond your body limit,” he said.

Moima advised young people who would like to start bodybuilding, to do a thorough research before they get involved.

He warned them against using steroids to enhance performance, and rather remain patient and sweat it out for better results.

“Another thing that most young people do, is to do weight-lifting or bodybuilding for all the wrong reasons. Some might do it to impress people, while others will start picking fights just for the fun of it. Body-building is all about loving your own body and having the passion for a healthy lifestyle,” he said.

Moima’s dream is to participate in bodybuilding competitions across the world in the near future.
