Modimolle hosts workshop for whistlemen

Soccer whistlemen from across the Modimolle-Mookgophong area formed part of a two-day skills development workshop held at Modimolle’s Lekkerbreek Primary School on Saturday 24 November and Sunday 25 November.

Soccer whistlemen from across the Modimolle-Mookgophong area formed part of a two-day skills development workshop held at Modimolle’s Lekkerbreek Primary School on Saturday 24 November and Sunday 25 November.

The candidates were drawn from Vaalwater, Mookgophong and Modimolle.

A total of 48 referees, both long-serving and new recruits, attended the workshop.

The workshops were facilitated by Waterberg referees coordinator, Edward Letsoalo.

He said the candidates arrived from their respective local football associations (LFA)’s from across the length and breadth of the Waterberg region.

“We have been doing these workshops across the region. The reason why we invite both new and old referees, is that from time to time there are amendments to the laws of the game,” he said.

Letsoalo said it was important to upskill the referees every year, to make sure that they absorb the latest developments.

He also told The BEAT that this process would be followed by an examination, to assess the referees’ knowledge of the laws governing modern football.

The referees will further undergo fitness tests subsequent to the examinations.

“All these assessments will help us to promote our referees according to their abilities,” he said.

Modimolle-Mookgophong LFA chairperson Hlupi Lehong said they were happy with the number of referees who attended the workshop.

Lehong said they had a total of 15 female referees in attendance.

“We thank everyone who made this possible. We also appreciate Lekkerbreek Primary School for hosting us,” he said.
