Bela-Bela Municipality should act responsible

Is it just poor service delivery, incompetence or is it due to the town council not caring about the rates and tax payers of this municipality?

Daleen Steynberg, Bela-Bela, writes

Today I wish to convey my misgivings in full.

Street lights should be functional at night time, however in Bela-Bela they are on during the day and at night the darkness is an open invitation to criminals.

The electric component boxes at the bottom of the streetlights are vandalised and in a sorry state of disrepair. This is dangerous with grievous consequences to the council if somebody should get hurt.

The upgrading of the water pipes took off with great gusto but soon petered out and came to a halt, leaving every street in town a hazard. What is the reason for this poor service delivery?

The new water pipes are to be seen all over town. They are stockpiled and left there for the picking. New fire hydrants were installed but to this day are not functional.

Water is still wasted by faulty lines and pipe bursts due to poor connections.

The sad state of our roads are a great concern of all residents and visitors. Potholes are rife and the council is not taking a preventive solution to alleviate the problem, instead they are filling up the pothole with soil, which lasts a day or two. All the man hours wasted.

Since 2013 the Roodepoort and Noodhulp areas have had 541 power interruptions. How is it possible that the problem cannot be rectified? Is it just poor service delivery, incompetence or is it due to the town council not caring about the rates and tax payers of this municipality?

The Festive season is upon us with a huge influx of visitors — fix our problem areas so that inhabitants can be safe.
