Taxi suspect’s case postponed again

A suspect arrested from inside a minibus taxi in connection with the possession of suspected stolen goods was expected to appear before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 31 October.

A suspect arrested from inside a minibus taxi in connection with the possession of suspected stolen goods was expected to appear before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 31 October.

Modimolle police spokesperson, Warrant Officer James Findlay, said the suspect’s arrest, and subsequent court appearance, was a sequel to an incident which took place on Saturday 20 October in Modimolle’s Phagameng Township.

At the time The BEAT reported that Modimolle SAPS Commander for Vissible Policing (VISPOL), Captain Michael Motadi, was on patrol with his team in the township when they stumbled into a
suspicious-looking taxi and flagged it to stop.

The taxi allegedly sped off with the patrol team giving chase.

The taxi came to a halt in the vicinity of bushes on the outskirts of the township, with the three occupants fleeing on foot.

Findlay further said the police gave chase on foot and managed to arrest one of the suspects.

On Tuesday 30 October, Findlay said the two other suspects were still at large.

In the taxi, the police confirmed to have found two allegedly stolen motorbikes, three quad-bikes, linen and cutlery.

The arrested suspect made his first appearance on Monday 22 October, and appeared again for formal bail application on Monday 29 October.

He remained in custody until his next court appearance midweek.
