Members of a special provincial SAPS operation have reason to believe they succeeded in smashing a drug syndicate in Bela-Bela after R200 000 worth of “nyaope” was seized.
Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, said the police interrupted a vehicle travelling from Hammanskraal in Gauteng, headed for Bela-Bela, with a consignment of the “nyaope” drugs on the morning of Tuesday 2 October, following a tip-off.
The joint operation, conducted in the form of an entrapment system, composed of the Limpopo Crime Intelligence Unit, the Provincial Narcotics Squad and detectives from the Bela-Bela police
station.
Two suspects, a male person and an alleged 25-year-old female accomplice, were nabbed and the police recovered 120 sachets of the highly-addictive “nyaope” concoction, with an estimated street
value of over R200 000.
The suspects were identified as Sello Solomon Khoza and Baby Annah Mataboge and were both from Bela-Bela’s Extension 5.
They first appeared in court on Wednesday 3 October.
The suspects were expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 16 October for formal bail application proceedings.
Police investigations continue.
