The police in Mookgophong were investigating a case of culpable homicide after 11 passengers died tragically and several others were taken to hospital in the early hours of Monday, 17 September.

The bus accident took place along the N1 next to Mookgophong.

It is reported that the bus with 60 occupants, overturned while traveling from Gauteng towards the direction of Polokwane after the driver allegedly lost control.

According to the police, 11 out of the 60 occupants were certified dead at the scene, while others had to be rushed to various hospitals for medical attention.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said preliminary investigations revealed that the bus was travelling from Gauteng to Zambia, and further confirmed that the deceased were
three males and eight females.

“The cause of the accident is not clear at this stage but the ongoing police investigations will tell,” Ngoepe said.
