Modimolle Primary wins under 12 tournament

Modimolle Primary School won the inaugural La Masia FC Under-12 Grassroots Festival last Saturday 8 September, after beating Lekkerbreek Primary School.

Modimolle Primary School won the inaugural La Masia FC Under-12 Grassroots Festival last Saturday 8 September, after beating Lekkerbreek Primary School.

The tournament was initially planned to involve five local primary schools, but three of them did not pitch on the day of the event.

Lekkerbreek Primary School first defeated Modimolle Primary School 2-0 in a friendly warm-up match ahead of the main fixture.

The tables were however turned during the cup match, with Modimolle Primary School eliminating Lekkerbreek Primary School 3-2 on penalties, after a hard fought 0-all draw.

Tshepo Selamolela of La Masia FC said they had expected all other teams to come and compete, so as to allow a potpourri of talent from across the Modimolle area.

“We believe that next year it will be greater and even better. We appreciate the support shown by these educators towards advancing grassroots football. As the team, we have identified a few
players who will be included into the La Masia FC development programme,” he said.

Lekkerbreek Primary School educator and team coach, Lesibana Ditle, said the competition was more than just about winning, but was also about imparting skills on the young players.

“I think La Masia FC came up with a good initiative to help develop football at grassroots level in Modimolle. Some of our players were spotted and selected to form part of the club, which
signals that there is talent here at home,” he said.

Modimolle Primary School educator and team coach, Ediel Mokoka, said the tournament was instrumental in developing young talent, and also had no doubt they will implement the skills at school level.
