Bela-Bela residents are still in shock following the discovery of two foetuses in the area in a matter of a few days.

Bela-Bela residents are still in shock following the discovery of two foetuses in the area in a matter of a few days.

The first foetus was discovered by a municipal official working at the local sewer on Friday 24 August.

Bela-Bela SAPS Detectives Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Abel Phetla, told The BEAT the second foetus was discovered by youngsters looking for scrap metal, near Hleketani Primary School on Monday 27 August.

He said the police had already checked with local health facilities but could not trace the culprits.

Phetla said it was a challenge to conclude investigations in such cases, because the guilty mothers tend to visit clinics outside of Bela-Bela.

Members of the community flocked to one of the scenes of the discovery of the foetuses.

Those with information that could assist investigations are advised to contact Phetla on 082 565 8512.
