Concern over dilapidated building in Bela-Bela

Many residents in Bela-Bela have perceived as an eyesore an apparently abandoned building on the corner of Chris Hani Street and Pretoria Street, opposite a fast-food chicken outlet.

The building, opposite KFC in downtown Bela-Bela, used to house a popular after-hours pub.

At the time that the pub closed its doors in recent months, some construction work went on for a while, until everything came to a standstill.

Bela-Bela Local Municipality spokesperson, Kabelo Mosito, said on Tuesday 28 August discussions were ongoing with the owner of the premises.

Mosito said it was a priority for the municipality to make sure the central business district was the nerve centre of the town, and that all was being done to make sure the town looked good.

“Remember our town is a tourism destination so everything in town has to reflect our sunshine town,” he said.
