In hot water over diesel

An official of the Mogalakwena Local Municipality was nabbed during a sting operation after he was found transferring allegedly stolen diesel into a private truck.

Frans Mojapelo appeared in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court in connection with the illegal possession of 1 000 litres of diesel, in a tanker belonging to the municipality.

The diesel was valued at R15 000.

The accused was arrested on Thurday 23 August by members of the Mahwelereng SAPS in the village of Mzombana, following a tip-off from members of the community.

Mogalakwena Local Municipality spokesperson, Malesela Selokela, said the police followed him until he was allegedly caught red-handed transferring diesel from the tanker into a private truck,
at his house in Mzombana.

The accused has been released on bail of R500, until his next court appearance.

In a related matter, the municipality has said it has opened a case of the misuse of petrol cards amounting to R2.9 million.
