The under-15 youngsters — who are part of the Bela-Bela Soccer Academy — were to represent the Waterberg at the provincial showpiece.

Head coach Sam Modise said it was a tough ask because last year the youngsters were eliminated from the self-same provincial stages.

The team finished third place at the time, winning two matches, and drawing one.

He said the team’s supporters were looking up to players like captain Gontse Molokomme, and strikers Kgomotso Mokhanda and also Kabelo Mokoena, to do the home territory proud.

The Bela-Bela Soccer Academy team was scheduled to do battle with Bjatladi Secondary High School from Capricorn, Benny’s Sport Academy from Vhembe, Makikele High School form Mopani and Moroathebe High School from Sekhukhune.

President of the South African School’s Football Association (SASFA), Mandla Mazibuko, hailed the competition as a port of entry for unknown players to showcase their skills at the highest
possible level.
