Motaung’s case postponed to Friday

The Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case against self-confessed drug dealer Thapelo Motaung to Friday 24 August.

The Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case against self-confessed drug dealer Thapelo Motaung to Friday 24 August.

The office of the clerk of the court said Motaung was granted the opportunity to enlist a legal representative, during a brief appearance on Friday 10 August.

On other platforms, Motaung had come out clean and spoke publicly about his regret at dealing in drugs.

As part of his apparent rising profile, Motaung was booked to speak at an all-embracing anti-drugs protest march on Friday 3 August.

This was a sequel to Motaung coming out clean at a previous event at Forever Resorts, asking the community to forgive him for allegedly dealing in drugs, and also pledged to throw his lot
behind efforts to fight the scourge of substance abuse.

However, things took a different turn when the police advised that Motaung could not make statements on public platforms at the end of the protest march on 3 August, as he had the case of
drug-dealing pending against him.

Bela-Bela SAPS Detectives Commander, Lieutenant Abel Phetla, made the pronouncement about Motaung’s public appearances, and the sub judice implications over the matter.

On Friday 10 August the court postponed the case to allow Motaung to seek legal representation.

The anti-drugs event at which he could speak nor made an appearance was addressed by, among others, Bela-Bela SAPS Station Commissioner, Colonel Lindie Marx.
