A Zimbabwean wannabe courtroom fugitive has been sentenced to four years in connection with a series of charges.

A Zimbabwean wannabe courtroom fugitive has been sentenced to four years in connection with a series of charges.

The Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court meted out a sentence of three years to Walter Majecha (26) on a charge of housebreaking and theft, and an additional six months each for entering the country illegally, and another six for attempting to escape from legal custody.

The Zimbabwean national was arrested on the premises of the local courts when he bolted from the courtroom on Wednesday 4 July.

On Thursday 12 July, Majecha entered a plea of guilty on all charges.

He was found guilty on two charges of housebreaking flowing from an incident in Bela-Bela, whereby he was accused of stealing cellphones, clothing, cash, a TV set and a satellite dish.
