Nkoana-Mashabane issues title deeds

A total of nine land restitution claiming communities were awarded title deeds by Rural Development and Land Reform Minister, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, at Bela-Bela’s Forever Resorts on Tuesday 10 July.

A total of nine land restitution claiming communities were awarded title deeds by Rural Development and Land Reform Minister, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, at Bela-Bela’s Forever Resorts on Tuesday 10 July.

Representatives from Communal Property Associations (CPAs) who received the title deeds were family members of Seabi, Matlhabatse, Mabula Mosima, Baphalane ba Ramokoka, Shamane Magashule, Letlhakaneng, Ga-Padi, Sebilong and Batlhaleroa.

The delegates asked the minister that the government should travel all the way with communities in managing these properties, to avoid contestation and tensions within respective families.

In her address Nkoana-Mashabane said it was a government objective to use land restitution as a means to alleviate poverty.

She said the Ministry had brought the recipients from nine different communities under one roof, so as to fast-track the process.

Nkoana-Mashabane said women and the youth among these communities would be encouraged to get into commercial farming, so as to create self-employment.

Bela-Bela Mayor Jeremiah Ngobeni concurred, adding that many among the local youth were too dependent on job opportunities emanating from government, instead of exploring alternative
opportunities in the agricultural sector.
