Residents of Modimolle’s Freedom Park (Extension 7) have breathed a collective sigh of relief after the authorities unblocked the overflowing local sewerage pipelines.

Residents of Modimolle’s Freedom Park (Extension 7) have breathed a collective sigh of relief after the authorities unblocked the overflowing local sewerage pipelines.

Last Friday 13 July, The BEAT published a report with regards to families who were living in fear of a potential health hazard, as a result of the sewerage spill across many of the yards.

At the time, resident Abram Seleka said the problem dated back to the Easter Weekend.

On Monday 17 July a relieved Seleka said things were back to normal after technical personnel from the Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality fixed the overflowing pipelines.

The problem was attended to last Friday 13 July.

“We are thankful that the municipality attended to the problem. There is a breath of fresh air now,” he said, following weeks of the suffocating stench across the neighborhood.

Another resident, Francinah Matlala, also expressed her delight at the relief from the stench.

She said she had been forced to leave her home for long periods, just to avoid the choking smell from the overflowing sewerage.

“Children are also able to play freely, without me having to worry about their health,” she said.
