The discovery of the mutilated remains of a 50-year-old Zimbabwean national outside Mookgophong on Wednesday 4 July has shocked the local community.

SAPS investigating Warrant Officer George Ledwaba said the man, who has not as yet been identified, was on his way from his place of employment at Waltkon Abbatoir on the Roedtan road after working night shift, when he was attacked.

He said the man was hit from behind with a brick on the head, and that also his throat was slashed with a sharp instrument.

Ledwaba said the man was also wounded in the face.

He said the murder took place between 05:00 and 06:00, as his shift ended at 04:00.

An eyewitness who first discovered the man’s body said the gruesome find was around 06:00, while a woman who chose to remain anonymous said she saw bloodstains in the vicinity.

Ledwaba explained that the man had not spend two nights at home, and that he usually walked home in the company of fellow workers.

He was all by his own on that fateful Wednesday, Ledwaba said.

Ledwaba further added police investigations suggest the murder was pre-meditated.

The forensic team from Modimolle SAPS also worked on the scene of the crime.

No arrests had been made as on Wednesday 11 July.
