A Mookgophong shopowner was shot dead during an attack on Wednesday 20 June inside his store.

Ethiopian Adina Sarebo’s store is on the corner of Thabo Mbeki Street and Nelson Mandela Street.

Shop assistant, who chose to be identified only as Moosa, was an eyewitness during the attack, when four armed attackers entered the store at around 19:00.

One of the attackers pulled a 9mm pistol and fired three shots at close range.

The shopowner was shot three times in the chest.

An ambulance and the police were summoned to the scene.

Sarebo was taken to a local health clinic where he was declared dead on arrival.

According to Moosa, he had never seen the attackers at the shop before.

The attackers sped off in a getaway vehicle parked along Thabo Mbeki Street.

Mookgophong Community Policing Forum member, Frans Grobler, said he was in the shop at about 18:45 to buy cooldrink.

He said he saw a person enter the shop, then retreat, but did not suspect any foul play.

Police investigations continue.
