ANC and EFF candidates still unknown for by-election

The countdown ahead of the all-important by-elections in Bela-Bela’s Ward 9 has started in earnest, with the ANC and EFF still to unnounce their candidates.

The Waterberg Independent Electoral Commission has since announced the by-election was scheduled for Tuesday 17 July.

Spa Park-based businessman, Eddie Arschendorf, has been named as the candidate for the Democratic Alliance.

Ward 9 became vacant after the resignation of DA Councillor Kobus van der Merwe, who has relocated to the Western Cape town of George.

There are four weeks before the polls, but the ruling ANC and the EFF have yet to announce a candidate each for the crucial campaign.

ANC chairman Jeremiah Ngobeni told the media on Monday 11 June a candidate for the ruling party had not as yet been decided upon.

Bela-Bela EFF coordinator, Sello Moswoeu, was not available for comment at the time of going to print.

The emergent Bela-Bela Residents’ Association (BRA) spokesperson, Piet Mabusela, said the organisation had scheduled a meeting for the forthcoming weekend to deliberate on the matter.
