Modimolle Masters FC has qualified for the Modimolle/Mookgophong Mayor’s Cup, after beating younger counterparts Bussel FC 3-1 in the knockouts last Sunday 10 June.

Prior to that match, NTK Happy Boys FC also registered its name in the next stages of the competition, by narrowly beating Liverpool Masters FC 6-5 on penalties, following a 1-all draw at the end of regulation time.

Modimolle Masters FC will on Saturday 16 June, square off with NTK Happy Boys FC in the final to decide the outright winner.

There is however no pressure between the two teams, as they have already qualified for the quarter-finals.

In the lower Local Football Association (LFA) on the same day, La Masia FC was expected to lock horns with Di Maria FC at the Ephraim Mogale Stadium, to determine who goes into the Mayor’s Cup tournament.

The Mayor’s Cup will feature a total of eight teams, comprising of three from Modimolle, two from Mookgophong, two from Vaalwater and one from Alma.

Modimolle/Mookghophong Stream A league manager, George Maluleka, said the competition was tough during the knockouts, and anticipated the quarter finals will also produce fireworks.

“We anticipate that the competition will be exciting, as teams have shown their determination to lift the Mayor’s Cup trophy,” he said.

Retired referee and now LFA chairperson, Hlupi Lehong, said they were working on finalising the knockouts in Mookgophong and later Vaalwater.
