As part of the broader Africa Month Celebrations, Modimolle’s Black Lives Matter Foundation would be hosting one of the worldwide renowned poets, Mutabaruka at the local Phagameng Township.

The Music and Literature Festival will be held at Lekkerbreek Primary School on Friday 8 June, starting at 6:30pm.

Local artists and poets will also have an opportunity to perform alongside the Jamaican poet.

Born Allan Hope, Mutabaruka focuses on, among other issues, politics, culture, social oppression and discrimination.

Black Lives Matter Foundation chairperson Zunaid Mosam said the event would serve to celebrate Africa and further raise awareness on the broader continental discourse.

He said the event would help locals to better understand what the struggles of the African continent were all about.

Mosam said people from neighbouring areas including Bela Bela, Mookgophong and Vaalwater were expected to be part of this event.

“This is one of many other activities that we will be doing in and around Modimolle, to empower the locals with knowledge,” he said.
