New fleet will boost service delivery

Five brand new bakkies for the water and sanitation department of the Modimolle-Mookgophong Municipality will boost service delivery.

12The five single-cab Isuzu D-MAX bakkies were handed over to the municipality on Monday 5 August. According to Mayor Sechele Sebolai, the new vehicles will enable the department to react quickly to complaints and other issues.

08“The old vehicles often had breakdowns, which impacted our response time. When I asked Thabang Selemela of the water and sanitation department what we need to do to improve our service to the community, he said new bakkies would help.

I urge everyone in the department to take proper care of these vehicles and to hit the ground running,” said Sebolai.

He reminded the department’s employees that the vehicles were not meant for private use and that speeding would not be allowed.

Modimolle and Mookgophong will each receive two bakkies, one for sanitation and one for water. One bakkie will go to Vaalwater.

“We aim to have our own fleet of vehicles, from small cars to big machines.

We are buying them bit by bit and aim to do away with leasing vehicles,” said Sebolai.

This is part of the municipality’s cost-saving measures.

“We saw huge improvements in service delivery when we bought the new refuse trucks.

We hope to see the same with these new bakkies.”

Sebolai said that residents must pay for the municipal services that they use.

This way the municipality will be able to provide better services.

“We will not do business with enterprises who owe us money,” he said.

The bakkies were bought from the MMU Group Isuzu dealership in Modimolle to support locally.
