Did you spot the Bull Shark in the local dam?

Die Pos team decided to have some fun on April Fools’ Day, Monday, 1 April, and posted on our online platforms that a Bull Shark also known in Southern Africa as a Zambezi shark, was spotted in the local municipal dam.

On Wednesday 3 April 2024, our Facebook page reached over 875 268 post impressions and had over 1800 interactions and almost 400 comments, record-breaking statistics for Die Pos … and is still growing!

Some viewers pointed out that it’s an April fool’s hoax and some believed that we did have a Bull Shark in the middle of the Bushveld.

“Yes, it is possible. There are sharks that can hold salt in their bodies for many years and they can survive in rivers and dams,” said one member on our Facebook page.

“I had the best laugh ever with all the comments, thanks to everyone who made my day! Keep the humour in our mundane lives. We need more of this and less of the bad and the sad news that overwhelms us,” another reader commented.

The moral of the story? Be careful what you read on social media. If you missed the post, it is still on our Facebook page to read and have a good giggle.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
