Nabbed medicine leads to arrest

A man was arrested in Modimolle after medicine worth tens of thousands of Rands was allegedly found in his car.

The man sparked suspicion when he parked his blue Mazda 323 at a fuel station. The police were alerted and they searched the 28-year-old man’s car. They allegedly found 270 bottles of pills in his possession. The police did not provide more information on the type of medication but estimated its worth at approximately R58 500.

According to WO Pieter Booyse, member of the Modimolle Crime Intelligence and Public Order Policing, the man was arrested on Thursday 20 July at around 20:00.

The suspect, who has not yet been named, was remanded in custody until his first court appearance at the Modimolle Magistrates Court on
Friday 21 July.

His case was postponed until Thursday 27 July for a formal bail application. He appears on charges of possession of medicine and related substances. Police investigations are ongoing.

The arrest was welcomed by the Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Limpopo, Lt Gnl Thembi Hadebe.
