Former corrupt Absa Bank employees firm behind bars

Three former Absa bank employees received lengthy sentences in the Mokopane Regional Court on Tuesday 11 April on various charges of fraud.

According to WO Lethunya Mmuroa, spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crimes (the Hawks), the three accused, Dimakatso Prudence Ramokgole (34), Seatile Pauline Senoamadi (44) and Motsiri Peter Ramahlarerwa (58), were employed at Absa Bank in Mookgophong, Lephalale and in Sandton, Gauteng.

Investigators found that during 2019 the accused gained access to an investment portfolio listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and the Samanco Foundation without authorization.

They proceeded to transfer the amount of R2,9 million from these portfolios to their own bank accounts.

Mmuroa said the accused continued their fraudulent activity by adding their own accounts to the respective trustees and funneled more money to their own accounts.

The total financial loss between July and September 2019 amounted to R191 108 910,46.

The Hawk’s serious commercial crime unit arrested the three in October 2019.

Although they were initially released on R50 000 bail each, they were found guilty.

Ramakgole was sentenced to 15 years for fraud.

Senoamadi was found guilty on two counts and received 30 years imprisonment and Ramahlarerwa also received 30 years.

Each sentence will run concurrently and the Hawks welcome the court’s final decision, said Mmuroa.
